General Taser Questions

TASER energy weapons work by firing two pronged darts which are propelled by compressed nitrogen. The darts are tethered to insulated copper wire which conduct the electricity from the TASER energy weapon into the attacker’s body. When both darts hit, if the electrical circuit is completed and maintained, it may cause the attackers muscles to contract and they may lose voluntary muscle control.

All other stun guns only induce pain and do not incapacitate muscle or knock down an attacker. Only a TASER energy weapon is equipped with neuromuscular incapacitation which may immobilize an attacker.

NMI is the motor-nerve stimulation of the skeletal muscles that occurs when electrical pulses temporarily interfere with the command and control systems of the body.

No. There are currently over 800 scientific and medical studies, research papers, articles, etc. about TASER CEWs, approximately 77% of which were conducted by independent entities with no funding or support from Axon (or formerly TASER International, Inc.).

High voltage, in and of itself, is not dangerous. Please reference our Civilian CEW Safety Document.

In many cases, the darts leave small probe or contact wounds, and the subjects are able to recover following the exposure. Please consult our Civilian CEW Safety Document for more details.
